Introducing the New Members of the Alumni Association Board of Governors
In June 2019, eight new members were unanimously elected by their peers to join the Alumni Association Board of Governors at UC Law SF. This cohort of passionate and engaged individuals are committed to advancing the goals of the association by fostering a supportive and energized alumni community. Every member is an ambassador, mentor, philanthropist, and champion for their alma mater. It is with great enthusiasm that we introduce the next wave.
Eduardo Alfonso Angeles ’90 serves as in-house senior counsel to Los Angeles World Airports which governs LAX and Van Nuys Airports. Prior to his current position, Eddie served as a Presidential Appointee as the Federal Aviation Administration’s Associate Administrator for Airports. He oversaw a $3.5 billion annual Federal airport grants program and passenger facility charge collections totaling over $2 billion. He also managed programs for national airport planning and development, including safety standards, design and engineering, certification, environmental processing, and financing. Previously, Eduardo served as Senior Assistant City Attorney for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office including as General Counsel to Los Angeles World Airports where he oversaw legal matters for four major airports in Southern California: LAX, Ontario, Van Nuys, and Palmdale.
Danielle Bogaards ’16 is an associate at Ropes & Gray, LLP, in San Francisco. Her practice focuses on business and securities litigation for complex commercial disputes, as well as government investigations. Representative work includes the defense of several mutual fund investment advisers against claims of excessive fees under Section 36(b) of the Investment Company Act of 1940, investigations of pharmaceutical and medical device companies for alleged False Claims Act violations, and investigations dealing with consumer protection issues. While at Hastings, Ms. Bogaards worked as an extern for Justice Kathleen Banke in the Court of Appeal First District, Division One. She also served as a senior note editor of the UC Law SF Constitutional Law Quarterlyand competed on both the law school’s Moot Court and Alternative Dispute Resolution teams.
Joseph Joey Boyd ’05 was born and raised in the small farm town of Kerman, California, which is located in Fresno County in the Central Valley. The only brother of three sisters, Joey’s family was heavily involved in both real estate development and in raisin and almond farming in their small community. After spending a year abroad in Sweden, Joey attended and graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. While in college, Joey took two years off to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Massachusetts and Mexico. Joey took an additional semester off to work as the legislative aid to Massachusetts State Representative George Rogers (D-New Bedford). Joey’s practice focuses on natural amalgamation of business, real estate, and estate planning. He has represented a wide range of clients, from small, family farmers to overseas real estate developers to some of the largest fruit packers in the world. Joey offers a blend of both transactional and litigation services, having negotiated agreements throughout the United States and having tried cases as far away as Hong Kong.
Elizabeth Delaney ’92 joined the Federal Trade Commission in January 2000 and has served as an Attorney Advisor to Commissioner Joshua D. Wright since January 2013. She previously served as an attorney advisor to Commissioner J. Thomas Rosch and Commissioner Thomas Leary. As an Attorney Advisor, she counsels the Commissioner on consumer protection matters and policy issues and assists the Commissioner in formulating policy positions and drafting statements and speeches. Prior to working in the Commissioner’s Office, Ms. Delaney was a staff attorney in the Division of Advertising Practices of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and was one of the primary attorneys responsible for implementing the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule. In that role, she worked extensively on industry and public outreach efforts to provide guidance on COPPA Rule requirements, participated in the review and approval process for safe harbor applications, and oversaw investigations relating to COPPA violations.
Theodore Gizewski ’96 is currently Vice President, Product Legal, at Salesforce in San Francisco. Prior to joining, he served as Deputy General Counsel at Workday and as Assistant General Counsel at Microsoft. Ted is a managing SaaS attorney with experience in enterprise level distribution/licensing, regulatory compliance, international expansion, AI/machine learning, data analytics, data privacy, and product development, and go-to-market business matters and strategy development. He is also a Marine Corps veteran and veterans advocate.
Ryan Lewis ’15 is an associate in the San Francisco office of Troutman Sanders LLP, who focuses on intellectual property and commercial litigation. During law school, Ryan served as a judicial extern for the Honorable William Alsup of the US District Court for the Northern District of California, and for the Honorable Scott Patton of the Alameda County Superior Court. Ryan does pro bono work for Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), a non-profit focused on protecting the rights of children who have experienced violence and poverty. Prior to law school, Ryan worked for five years as an insurance broker for a Fortune 500 commercial insurance brokerage firm in San Francisco.
Patricia O’ Prey ’96 is an experienced litigator with more than 20 years experience, including internal investigations, white collar criminal defense and complex litigation. She founded and led the internal investigations team at GE for the Alstom acquisition, GE’s largest acquisition in its history. This team played a critical role in terms of culture and risk management, managing more than 500 internal investigations in a two year period and attempting to uncover acts of legal wrongdoing following the then largest FCPA fine in history (against Alstom). She led a team of 10 investigators globally and, thus, is attuned to the heightened risks and cultural sensitivities in conducting investigations in multiple jurisdictions. Her team investigated a wide range compliance concerns from FCPA, Controllership, Fraud, Theft to #metoo or sexual harassment investigations.
Before going in-house, she focused her career on complex civil litigation and on representing institutions and individuals that were subject to investigation by criminal or regulatory authorities (DOJ, SEC, FINRA). Ms. O’Prey’s clients ranged from a textile retailer to some of the most successful hedge funds in the US, including individuals and executives are financial institutions. She first-chaired a jury trial involving claims of copyright infringement and received a favorable verdict for her client. In addition to being an experienced litigator, she is a trained arbitrator and mediator.
Hon. Allene R. Suemori (Ret.) ’74 served as a district judge in the Family Court of the First Circuit State of Hawaii from March 1993 until her retirement in March 2005. While a Family Court Judge, she presided over trials, pretrial, post-trial motions, and settlement conferences. For two and a half years, she was simultaneously the assigned judge for Mechanics Lien cases in the First Circuit Court. During her Family Court judicial career Judge Suemori presided over divorce, paternity, guardianship and adoption cases, some of which also involved restraining orders. Judge Suemori was raised in Honolulu and graduated from Punahou School. She received her A.B. degree in psychology from Boston University in 1970 and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1974.
