Library Closed on Monday, Jan. 17, for MLK Holiday

The Law Library will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

The Law Library collection contains a number of MLK-inspired ebooks, including Behind the Public Veil: The Humanness of Martin Luther King Jr.; Misremembering Dr. King: Revisiting the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.; and From Civil Rights to Human Rights: Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Struggle for Economic Justice.

HeinOnline’s Civil Rights and Social Justice database, which collects documents from the Commission on Civil Rights, U.S. Supreme Court, and Congress, provides a comprehensive view of the legislative and judicial proceedings that Dr. King helped set in motion.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University also offers a variety of resources on the African American Freedom Struggle. The King Institute provides access to Dr. King’s personal papers, such as his Letter From a Birmingham Jail and his address to the Eleventh Annual SCLC Convention, tools for teaching about Black Liberation, and ongoing research in the field of civil rights.

When engaging these resources, one should think about the words of Coretta Scott King: “Let this holiday be a day of reflection, a day of teaching nonviolent philosophy and strategy, a day of getting involved in nonviolent action for social and economic progress.”
