New CNDR Director, Professor Aragaki, to Speak at Thailand Arbitration Center's International ADR Week

Professor Hiro Aragaki, the incoming Director of The Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution (CNDR) at UC Law SF, has been invited to participate in a webinar co-sponsored by the Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC) and the Singapore International Mediation Institute (SIMI) as part of THAC International ADR Week 2022.

Entitled “Mediation: Here to stay, but a credible ADR Mode?,” the Webinar will take place at 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time on July 13, 2022 (10:00 a.m. Bangkok time (GMT +7) on July 14).  Professor Aragaki will deliver a presentation on mediator accreditation and join in a lively conversation about how to ensure the quality of mediation services in an increasingly globalized environment.

Full Program Description:  The entry into force of the Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation (the “Singapore Convention”) has arguably raised the profile of mediation as a legitimate form of alternative dispute resolution, particularly in cross border commercial disputes. Finding high-quality mediators dedicated to the highest ethical standards of conduct may prove to be difficult for the disputing parties. The market is growing and there are many players providing services related to mediation.  How can the quality of a mediation proceeding be assessed? This panel aims to introduce the audience to how quality assurance is incorporated into mediation so that disputants can have confidence in the mediator and the entire mediation process.  An overview as to how standards are upheld through the ecosystem, from the time a potential mediator is being trained, through the time he is assessed, and during actual mediation practice.
