Technology Law and Lawyering

The Technology Law and Lawyering concentration prepares students to challenge the status quo as technology and globalization accelerate change in the delivery of legal services.

Overview

All lawyers, particularly those specializing in technology, must understand how technology influences the law and the delivery of legal services, as well as how the law affects technology and technology markets. By focusing on technology and innovation, you will be equipped for the future of the legal profession, regardless of the legal domain you choose.

The courses in the Concentration are designed to teach you how technology is impacting substantive law and legal practice, as well as how law is influencing technology and the tech industry. Once you understand the legal and regulatory environment for technology development and the legal issues faced by innovators and technology entrepreneurs, you will be prepared to analyze and opine on policy and regulation, and their effects on innovation and technology markets. Additionally, you will be ready to explore the doctrinal, ethical, economic, and technological forces shaping the legal industry, along with legal technologies aimed at increasing the efficiency, productivity, and accessibility of legal services.

Students graduating with a Concentration in Technology and Innovation Law will be able to:

· Understand the legal environment for emerging technologies and the new challenges they present.

· Engage in discussions about potential changes in the legal environment for technology and their implications specifically in IP, Privacy, Intermediary liability, Competition and Regulation

· Understand the nature and substance of legal services to technology companies in areas such as privacy, product counseling, and technology licensing.
