US News Rankings Highlight UC Law SF Specialty Programs

UC Law SF’ specialty programs are ranked highly nationwide.

UC Law SF College of the Law continues to be recognized by its peers as having top-ranked programs in law – including its Dispute Resolution program, ranked 9^th in the nation; Health Law at 12^th in the nation, Tax Law and its Clinical Program at 20^th in the nation, and Environmental Law at 21^st in the nation.

These were just some of the outstanding specialty rankings featured in this year’s U.S. News & World Report annual rankings of law schools, which were released in late March. US News looks at a number of factors when compiling its overall law school rankings, including admission rates, LSAT scores, reputation among lawyers and judges, resources invested in the law school, and other criteria.

“The school is enjoying a renaissance,” said Chancellor & Dean David Faigman. “Our curriculum is richer than ever in doctrine, theory, and practice. Our faculty is deeply devoted to teaching and our curriculum is very broad and deep. Our students receive real-world experience in our clinics and the vast number and variety of externship opportunities.”

Other specialty rankings for Hastings include the Trial Advocacy Program at 26^th nationwide, Contracts and Commercial Law at 27^th nationwide, International Law also at 27^th nationwide, and Intellectual Property at 29^th nationwide. Three additional programs ranked in the top 35 of law school programs across the nation – including Criminal Law and Business Law, which came in at 32^nd each, and Constitutional Law, which was listed at 33^rd. Overall, Hastings was ranked the top 51^st law school in the United States in the overall ranking for the school.

“We have a community of students, staff, faculty, and alumni second to none,” said Faigman. “It is that foundation, our community, on which we will continue to build one of the great law schools in the nation.”

In a message to the Hastings community, Faigman also touted school successes that were not recognized by US News – including that the UC Law SF Moot Court program is number 1 in the nation. The law school continues to improve its physical space as well, with a new 14-story tower at 198 McAllister Street opening in the fall of 2023 as an academic and student housing center, as part of the law school’s Academic Village. A full renovation of the 28-story residential tower at 100 McAllister St. is scheduled to begin in 2023.
