CNDR at the ABA Dispute Resolution Conference
A long-time attendee, The Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution (CNDR) made its annual appearance at the American Bar Association Spring Dispute Resolution Conference, held May 10-13, 2023 in Las Vegas, NV.
This year marked the return to an in-person event, and participants from across the country joined together to share ideas and build connections. This year’s theme was Leading Change Through ADR: Strategies for Navigating Our World Today.
Plenary speakers included Judge Cheryl Demmert Fairbanks, Tribal Court of Appeals, discussing Indigenous peacemaking as a model to shift from an adversarial mindset to restoration and healing, and Professor Carrie Menkel-Meadow, reviewing the history of dispute resolution processes and what the future might hold with regard to technological changes in our field.
CNDR sponsored the Legal Educators’ Colloquium Luncheon and hosted an exhibit booth. CNDR Deputy Director Mattie Robertson presented “Exploring Intergenerational Differences in Mediation” with Lauren Lofton of Transform Belonging and UC Law SF alum Gabby Sergi to a packed room. The engaged group worked on identifying implicit biases related to age and other factors, and then practiced using some effective communication tools to engage in conversations about biases.
