Bio

Carolee Hoover was a civil litigation partner at McGuireWoods LLC and prior to that was an associate at Reed Smith LLP.  Carolee’s practice primarily focused on defending financial institutions and fintech companies in consumer finance-related litigation around the country, including state and federal preemption issues, and alleged violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Servicemember Civil Relief Act, federal and state debt collection statutes, mortgage foreclosure and repossession laws, and other servicing-related claims. Her caseload ranged from single-plaintiff matters to large-scale class action and MDL litigation. In addition, she represented clients in state and federal regulatory investigations.

Although she loved her time in private practice, Carolee left McGuireWoods in 2022 to pursue new lifestyle and career opportunities. Since then, she has volunteered as a mock trial coach and embraced new creative endeavors. Throughout her career, teaching and mentoring junior associates has been near and dear to her heart, so she is very much looking forward to working with her students to develop their research and writing skills.

Carolee graduated from Northeastern University Law School in 2005. She practiced law in Massachusetts and New York until 2011 when she moved back to California to be closer to her family. She lives in SOMA and can often be found enjoying the outdoors in the Bay Area with her husband and her pup.
