CalVet Fee Waiver

CalVet College Fee Waiver

The College Fee Waiver for Veteran Dependents benefit waives mandatory system-wide tuition and fees
at any State of California Community College, California State University, or University of California
campus. This program does not cover the expense of books, parking or room and board. There are four
plans under which dependents of Veterans may be eligible. Further information and eligibility can be
found in the CalVet page.

CalVet Fee Waiver at UC Law San Francisco

The California Veteran Fee Waiver can only be applied to JD students. Unfortunately, it does not apply to our other graduate programs (MSL, HPL, CSL, and LLM).

The Financial Aid Office will need a College Fee Waiver Authorization for the academic year you intend to
attend. Through this authorization form, we will pull your Award Certification from CalVet.

The Cal Vet Fee Waiver will cover the current Enrollment Fee.

The Cal Vet Fee Waiver will not cover the following fees:
Activity Fee
MBE Support Fee
Health Services Fee
UCSHIP Premium

Additional information when using the Cal Vet Fee Waiver:

If you are offered a merit or need-based scholarship/grant (internal to UC Law SF), you must opt to use one or the other and may not apply for both. The Cal Vet Fee Waiver is, however, in most cases, the better of the two programs as it will cover the entire Enrollment Fee.

Upon Admission, we recommend you mention your Cal Vet benefits.

Furthermore, neither a merit scholarship nor the Cal Veteran Fee Waiver may be used to cover your seat
deposits.

Once we have a record that you are eligible for the waiver and post your benefits, you will be reimbursed for the deposit (this usually occurs by August).

If you are considering borrowing federal loans to cover fees not covered by your Cal Vet Fee Waiver or to
finance living expenses, you’ll need to complete the financial aid documents listed on the Financial Aid Checklist.
