Derek Schwede is a Principal of Smithline PC, a one-of-a-kind San Francisco law firm focusing exclusively on technology transactions, product legal review and open source advising. As Principal, Derek leads teams that represent the firm’s Internet, SaaS/software, device and video game clients and participates in firm management. Derek has played a lead role in developing many of the firm’s core practice materials and approaches. Derek joined the firm in 2010 and became a shareholder in 2015.
Prior to joining the firm, Derek was an associate in the Technology Transactions Group at Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco, California. Derek received a BA, cum laude, in History and Asian Studies from Rice University and a JD from Harvard Law School.
Derek was named to “Rising Stars” in Technology Transactions by Super Lawyers.
Derek is admitted to practice in California and Washington State.
