Bio

Harold (Chip) Selan graduated from the University of California, Berkeley (Phi Beta Kappa) in History, in 1978 and received his J.D. from UC Law SF (Hastings) in 1982. Chip has been teaching in the legal writing program at UC Law SF since 1989.

He is a sole practitioner engaged in civil litigation and appellate work. He served both as a member and as chair of the California State Bar Committee on the Administration of Justice, as well as a member of the State Bar Committee on Appellate Courts. In 2008, he worked with the USAID Rule of Law Program in Albania presenting lectures on legal writing to trial and appellate judges. In 2010, he was a visiting professor of legal writing at the School of Magistrates in Tirana, Albania.
