Bio

Adjunct Professor Harry B. Maring has been in private practice for over 25 years and is the principal of The Maring Law Firm in San Francisco, focusing on estate and gift tax planning as well as tax, corporate, and business planning for individuals and entities.

Professor Maring is Certified as a Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law by The State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization and earned his LL.M. degree in Taxation from New York University School of Law, his J.D., cum laude, from Cumberland School of Law and his B.A. in History from Vanderbilt University.

He is also an adjunct professor to the graduate tax law program of Golden Gate University School of Law where he teaches Estate Planning for the Blended Family.

Professor Maring authored the request for and received IRS Private Letter Ruling 200621020. He is a frequent speaker and author on various estate planning topics, including the following activities for Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB): Author of the chapter on Tax Planning for Farms, Vineyards and Ranches in the publication Special Assets in Estate Planning; author of the “S” Corporation Action Guide; author of the revision of Chapter 14 (Income Taxation of Decedents, Estates and Beneficiaries) and Chapter 15 (Estate Tax Procedures) of Decedents= Estate Practice; Seminar Lecturer for Cross-Over Issues in Estate Planning and Dissolutions: When Death and Divorce Collide; Seminar Lecturer for Fundamentals of Estate Planning; and Seminar Lecturer for Estate Planning for the Blended Family.

Professor Maring is admitted to practice before United States Supreme Court, the United States Tax Court, the Fifth, Ninth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for Northern California, the U.S. District Court for Alabama and all State Courts in California and Alabama.

He serves on the Board of Directors and subcommittees of several Bay Area nonprofit organizations and is a past member of the board of directors of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of San Francisco and the San Francisco Public Library Foundation – Financial and Corporate Research.

Professor Maring and his family enjoy travel, food and wine and he fancies himself an artisan baker of rustic breads, boules, baguettes and biscotti.
