Bio
Kathryn (Kate) Martin is an Adjunct Professor of Law at UC Law SF. Most recently, Kate served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, where she was the Deputy Chief of the Office’s White Plains Division. In that position, Kate handled all federal criminal prosecutions in the six counties served by the unit, during intake, investigation, charging, discovery, motion practice, trial, sentencing, and post-conviction. Prior to being Deputy Chief, Kate was a line assistant in the White Plains Division, where she investigated and prosecuted an array of criminal matters, including healthcare fraud, theft of public funds, voter fraud, narcotics trafficking, firearms offenses, and human trafficking.
Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Kate worked as a litigation associate in the New York offices of Davis Polk & Wardwell and Stillman, Friedman and Shechtman. Kate clerked for the Honorable Raymond J. Dearie on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York (2003-2004), as well as the Honorable Reena Raggi on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (2005-2006). Kate received her B.A. in Government from Georgetown University in 2000 and her J.D. in 2003 from St. John’s University School of Law, where she was on the Law Review.
In her free time, Professor Martin enjoys spending time with her husband and four children, reading, exercising, and exploring the West Coast, where she and her family relocated in 2020.
