Laurie Zimet

Bio

Laurie Zimet is a recognized expert in academic support as well as diverse teaching methods and assessment. She has made presentations at conferences sponsored by the Association of American Law Schools, Council on Legal Education Opportunity, Institute for Law Teaching & Learning, Law School Admission Council, and Society of American Law Teachers, among others and at numerous law schools. She served on the Advisory Committee for the Institute for Law Teaching & Learning and was a founding member of the Academic Support section of the Association of American Law Schools.

In addition, she participated in American Bar Association site evaluations and has served as a consultant to many law schools. In that capacity, she designed institutional assessments and implementation strategies to promote student learning and bar passage.

With a grant from the Institute for Law Teaching & Learning, she helped create two videotapes and accompanying materials on teaching and learning. These have been purchased by over 170 law schools and are now available on the Web.

At UC Law SF, Professor Zimet teaches doctrinal courses emphasizing legal analysis and active learning. She runs one of the largest academic support programs in the country. Prior to UC Law SF, she directed the Academic Success Program at Santa Clara University School of Law. In addition, she taught law courses at Mills College and served as an advisor for the school’s interdisciplinary law major.

She received her B.S., summa cum laude, from State University College at Buffalo with a double major in social work and criminal justice. She graduated from UC Law SF and practiced in the area of civil litigation, emphasizing third party liability.
