Matt works on litigation matters in Shook, Hardy & Bacon’s Product Liability Practice. Before joining Shook, Matt was an assistant district attorney in the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. Assigned to the felony litigation unit, Matt actively handled more than 50 pre- and post-preliminary hearing trial cases, tried a case to verdict and prepared hundreds more, and litigated more than 50 preliminary hearings.
After earning his J.D., Matt served as a law clerk for the Hon. Sally Denison Adkins (Retd), Court of Appeals of Maryland, where he assisted in writing opinions and resolving novel legal issues in Maryland’s highest court.
During law school, Matt served as a legal intern for the New York Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau, where he developed theories of liability for targets based on federal and state consumer protection laws and wrote memoranda discussing their viability. There he also evaluated complex preemption issues and wrote recommendations about proposed class action settlements, pursuant to the Class Action Fairness Act. He also worked as a law clerk for his school’s Office of the General Counsel, where he coordinated the school’s compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and proceedings for the school’s home loan program. Matt was also a legal intern with the Oakland Unified School District Office of the General Counsel, where he investigated and drafted responses to complaints in preparation for EEOC hearings and wrote memoranda relating to collective bargaining agreements.
