Matthew Sotorosen
Bio
In 1998, Adjunct Professor Matthew Sotorosen began his career as a criminal defense attorney with the Alameda County Public Defender’s Office. In 2006, he joined his current employer, the San Francisco County Public Defenders Office, where works as a trial attorney.
There, he defends indigent clients against felony criminal charges. Currently, he serves on the felony trial team. He has tried all types of criminal cases from drunk driving to homicide.
Professor Sotorosen has taught trial advocacy on the faculty of the California Public Defenders Association for their Trial Skills Institute. Before attending Hastings, Professor Sotorosen worked as an investigator on capital appeals cases in California.
He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1991 and obtained his J.D. from Hastings in 1998.
Professor Sotorosen has resided in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Diego, Madrid, Mexico City, San Salvador and Oaxaca. He currently resides in San Francisco.
